For a younger child, begin with the minimum communication needed to play with known people, review every connection request deliberately, limit private-server access, and keep inventory or visibility narrow unless there is a clear reason to expand it.
Why this decision matters
Public in-game chat, direct chat, the Chat tab, voice features, connections, trusted friends, private servers, and creator-built communication can have different availability and audiences. Parents need to inspect the live account rather than rely on an old tutorial.
A practical starting sequence
Inventory the live features
From the parent account, list the communication, connections, visibility, private-server, inventory, and trading options currently shown for this child.
Choose the smallest social circle
Start with no one or known approved connections where the current control allows it. Explain how a person becomes a connection or trusted friend.
Test inside a real game
Check public and direct communication, a private server, the connection list, and any creator-built chat or interaction that may not use Roblox’s platform chat.
What the child experiences
The child should know who can contact them, what information remains visible, how to leave or block, and that a familiar username is not proof of a person’s offline identity.
Roblox states that its Experience Chat and Direct Chat controls do not apply to chat features independently developed by game creators. Technical controls also cannot assess manipulation, bullying, or intent.
When to review it
Review after every new social feature, connection dispute, move into a new game community, age-check change, or request for voice or broader chat.
Configure social access deliberately
The Roblox guide maps each current communication surface and connects it to content, time, spending, and family expectations.
